Firmware upgrade
Warning: you can't make a backup with one version of ROM and then restore it with the other version, as many sysem files are different in different firmaware versions and after restoring an old backup the system stability is affected badly.
In order to save all PIM information (your contacts, for example) you can use Outlook on your PC or some other special programs, like PPCBckpContacts, it saves all PIM data into *.csc files, which can be easily edited with Microsoft Exel. Also it's always better to reinstall all the software you've got on your gSmart, updaping their versions.

Attention! Please make sure the firmware is suitable for your PDA phone before system upgrade: if you have gSmart (slider with 64Mb ROM) or gSmart i (with 64Мб ROM, not i128 and not i120), do NOT use i120/128 ROM. Any failure caused by incorrect firmware upgrade will be treated as Customer-Abuse to repair with standard charge.
Which Firmware version is better?
1. In versions 1.12.хх there's AKU 2.3, in 1.14.хх AKU 3.0 (what is AKU?).
2. Naturally, in newer ROM versions the bugs of older ones are solved, but there's no exact list of improvements and changes ( for i120 the latest firmware is 1.16.59 WM6, for i128 the number is 1.14.84 (i128 version!), for i300 there's a new 2.02.04 with Windows Mobile 6 Professional.
3. You can use firmware from i120 with i128, but the left soft key will work as Backspace.It's possible to use with i120 version designed for i128, but you should't forget it's not for your device, so there will be some differencies, like Smart Dial, which you control in i120 with hardware buttons, but not with stylus. You cannot use i300 Firmaware with other gSmart devices!
How to upgrade Firmaware?
- look carefully at the list above and download version for your device;
- extract files from archive;
- put *.nb0 file and CUSTFILE folder onto SD Card;
- turn off your gSmart;
- don't forget to charge the battery and connect AC adaptor;
- hold Call and End + press and hold Power button; |
| - You'll see Flash Utility (now you can release buttons), the process of Firmware upgrade begins: you'll see lue squares appearing on the screen, the blue light will flash (reading from SD card to the memory), then yellow light (writing from memory to flash), wait until squares stop to appear (there will be no blue light), the process takes about 20 minutes; |

- the device should restart itself, if not (after installing 1.14.58 you see FAIL) - do a soft reset, first run always takes some time, so be patient.
After the system has loaded, enter the calibration screen, use the stylus and follow the direction; |

| - Enter time zone, select Next; |

| - Stylus introduction, press Skip or Next; |

- then you can enter your password or skip this action.
Firmware upgrade complete. |

Solving problem situations:
Important: I wait for 40 minutes, but blue squares still appear on the screen...?
It means you use "wrong" Firmware, for example, if it was modified, or after flashing 1.14.хх you try to use Dump file to upgrade, but not official version!
what is dump?
A full copy of the system, whith is like firmware file and can be used the same way, it doesn't affect the upgrade process in any way, exept when it's not possible to use dump after installing 1.14.хх.
and how can I restore my native ROM from dump file?
You shold install 1.12.80 EN first, then use your dump.
how can I do a hard reset ?
- open Start - Programs - Tools - Restore to Factory Settings.
or
- turn off your device;
- hold Flag and OK + press Power;
- Wait until image is restored and system is loaded.
Where can I find firmware version of my device?
Start - Settings - System tab - About - Device ID or Device Info.

Hard reset.
Should the SD card be empty before upgrade?
Doesn't matter.
Will I lose all information after firmware upgrade?
Yes, exept files on your SD card.
